History of Golden, CO
Golden was established as a gold-rush town during the Pike’s Peak Gold Rush in 1859. Because it was such a crossroads in the Front Range, Golden City became the seat of Jefferson County.

Another fun activity in the City of Golden is to tour the Coors Brewery. Situated in the heart of downtown, Coors Brewer has been established on the banks of Clear Creek since 1873. The tour explores the entire beer-making process. Coors is the world’s larges single-site brewery. Best of all, the tour is free of charge. Simply park at a free parking lot located at 13th and Ford, catch the bus, and take the tour – which ends with a free sampling of beer.
Education and Schools
There are many excellent schools in Golden, including five elementary schools, one middle school, and the oldest senior high school in Colorado: Golden High School. Golden is also home to the oldest public university in Colorado – Colorado School of Mines, which is ranked as one of the top universities in the nation.
